Canadian Amateur Golf
Think you need a plane ticket to Florida or Arizona to see the future of the PGA and LPGA? Think again. For over three decades, the most exciting preview of golf’s next generation has been happening in Calgary on the legendary Forest Course at The Glencoe Golf & Country Club.
The Peloton Glencoe Invitational isn't just a tournament, it’s a Canadian golf institution. It’s one of Canada's premier player-development events with more than 100 former participants going on to compete on professional tours.
What launched in 1992 as a local showcase, exploded in popularity and became a nationwide sensation by 1999. Today, it stands as a prestigious crown jewel of the Canadian competitive circuit.
At a time when many clubs are limiting player development by prohibiting access, Glencoe members continue to support the ultimate proving ground for Canada’s best.
Stars Are Born
When you look at a PGA TOUR leaderboard on a Sunday afternoon, there’s a chance you’re looking at a Glencoe alum. The Forest Course has a funny way of predicting greatness:
Nick Taylor: Before he made history as the first Canadian to win the RBC Canadian Open since 1954 (and racked up five TOUR wins!), he was navigating the shadows of the Forest.
Mackenzie Hughes: The 2011 Champion has since gone on to become a two-time PGA TOUR winner.
The Powerhouse Crew: Names like Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, and Adam Hadwin all sharpened their games on The Forest before hoisting trophies on the world stage.
A Legacy That Refuses to Stand Still
The Invitational is a living, breathing thing—constantly evolving to push the sport forward. Check out the accomplishments:
Breaking Barriers: In 2021, history was made by adding the Women’s Division. After Christine Wong took the inaugural title, the floodgates opened for stars like Lauren Kim and 13-year-old Riviera Lindholm. Keep your eyes on the LPGA—you’ll see them there soon!
The $150K Milestone: Thanks to the incredible passion of the sponsors, the tournament purse has surged from $65,000 in 2023, $100,000 in 2025 and an amazing $150,000 this year!
The Professional Edge: By introducing professional divisions, a unique culture was created where amateurs can learn from pros who have been there.
Impact Beyond the Green: Through partnerships like the She Plays Golf series and the Rogers Charity Classic Birdies for Kids, they’re turning birdies into community.
Next week is sure to be another exciting event and here’s to the next 30 years!
